Matt Rand, director of global shark conservation for the Pew Environment Group, issued the following statement on August 8, 2011 in response to Chilean President Sebastián Piñera’s signing of Chile’s ban on shark finning.
The vicuña is one of the most smallest South American Camelids
and is probably linked to its cousin the Alpaca. Vicuña are distributed
along five countries in South America, which include Argentina, Peru,
Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador.
